Sena Alai – Life is an endless adventure

I have always believed that life is an endless adventure, one meant to be explored with curiosity, courage, and joy. Outside of work, you will usually find me reading (I will pick up just about any book I can get my hands on), listening to music, or out on my bike, letting the wind clear my mind. Music is a constant companion, helping me unwind and reset after busy days.

I also love the outdoors. Whether it is hiking, kayaking, or traveling to new places, I find these experiences deeply grounding. And when I am at home, I like rolling up my sleeves for DIY projects. I take pride in fixing broken things though I haven’t yet figured out how to fix broken hearts! 

Recently, I revived a 1975 vinyl player I found online and started collecting records. There is something special about the warmth of vinyl that connects me back to simpler times. These small hobbies keep me recharged and remind me to slow down and enjoy life’s little pleasures.

My biggest source of inspiration is my family. My wife and children are my anchor and my driving force. Their love, support, and faith in me push me to grow, to keep learning, and to strive to be the best version of myself every day.

My career journey

My career journey has been anything but linear, and that is exactly what makes it so fulfilling. I was born and raised in Ghana, where I completed my undergraduate studies before moving to Hungary for my postgraduate degree.

At 17, I started working  as a timekeeper in a construction company which I eventually ended up managing.  It was an experience that taught me about resilience, leadership, and the power of hard work.  I later moved into banking, supporting personal and enterprise clients and serving as the IT representative for my branch,  a role that sparked my passion for solving problems through technology.

While studying for my postgraduate degree, I worked part-time as an IT analyst, a path that eventually grew into a full-time career in IT operations and cybersecurity, and later, pharmacovigilance. Each chapter taught me invaluable lessons and allowed me to build a uniquely diverse skill set.

In March 2023, I embarked on my current adventure as an External Engagement Collaborations Partner at Roche. Today, I manage stakeholder interactions, facilitate engagements with healthcare professionals and patients, and support compliance efforts, audits, and process improvements. I also serve as the team’s “non-official go-to IT person,” creating analytics dashboards and helping to simplify complex information. My broad background enables me to adapt quickly and contribute meaningfully across many areas.

What resonates with me most at Roche is our culture of innovation. There is a shared passion here for learning, evolving, and questioning the status quo, all in pursuit of better outcomes. Combined with a strong sense of purpose, this mindset makes every day meaningful and connects us all to a bigger mission.

I am constantly inspired by how serious, focused, and innovative my colleagues are. Our shared commitment to excellence makes collaboration feel energizing and seamless. One of my favorite memories was our first face-to-face team meeting in 2023. It was the first time I met all my colleagues in person. The energy, laughter, and genuine excitement left a lasting impression on me. I will never forget arriving more than 20 minutes late that day, which somehow made it even more memorable.

Through all of life’s twists and turns, I have learnt to embrace the unexpected. I believe that “life will happen when it happens.” Challenges are part of the adventure, and I see each setback as a chance to learn and grow. Staying grounded in my purpose, both personally and professionally, and having the unwavering support of my family helps me maintain perspective.
